Each half is cut as a single piece: front on the right, back on the left, with no side seam — the grainline runs where the side seam would be. The hip measurement plus ease (4¾ in12 cm); the back is ¾ in2 cm wider than the front; the center back is raised by 1⅛ in3 cm so the boxers don't slip down when you bend over. Crotch depth is the rise plus 1⅛ in3 cm. The front and back inseams are the same length, and the hem is curved.
We checked the draft against proven commercial patterns for the same style: the key measurements match.
The pattern maker checks the draft itself: hip with ease, equal inseams, that the waistband will pass over the hips, and that the legs are roomier than the thigh. Results appear in the "Draft check" section.
How to print and tape
Download the PDF on Letter or A4 sheets and print at 100% scale, without "fit to page." The first sheet has the test square: measure it with a ruler. Tape the sheets with an overlap along the ⅜ in1 cm strips; sheet numbers and the assembly diagram are on the first page. For a copy shop or plotter, choose "One-sheet PDF."
What you get
A full-size half pattern with seam allowances, casing, and hem allowance. The elastic length is below the diagram.
FAQ
What fabric should I use?
Cotton: sateen, poplin, calico, percale, lightweight flannel. No knit needed — family boxers are loose, with hip ease of 4¾ in12 cm.
How do I sew them?
Fold each half and sew the inseam. Put one leg inside the other and sew the center seam — from the front waistband through the crotch to the back waistband. Hem the legs, fold the top into a casing, insert the elastic, leaving an opening at the back.
What if I don't know my rise?
Leave it at 0 — the pattern maker will estimate it from your hip measurement (about 10⅝ in27 cm for hips of 110). If you know it, sit on a chair and measure from the waist down to the seat at the side.
Can I make them longer or shorter?
Yes: use the "Side length" field. The default is about 14⅛ in36 cm for hips of 102 — mid-thigh; longer gives you lounge shorts.
